Farang?Offended?

Well I am a foreigner that is true…..though I don’t need to be reminded about the obvious every minute of the day, but offended no not at all. Well mostly 95% of the time I care nothing for the comment.

The word is not offensive, and actually I’m proud to be a foreigner, it shows that I can adapt to a new environment and settle in. No matter how good my language skills or how well I integrate into society I am always going to be farang.

I don’t want to be involved with local politics or decisions, I live here to enjoy the benefits of a tropical climate and a slower pace of life, let the locals sort out their issues, its none of my business, I’ll just keep the smile and carry on!

However the word farang… can be offensive, but that is only in its use and in context, and we know when it’s meant in that fashion, you can tell by the look and tone…. Do I care? No not at all it shows up the person saying it as uneducated and racist, and those people I don’t need in my life, so I just walk on by with a smile on my face in full knowledge that they hold themselves back and will never achieve anything…..( inside I’m quietly laughing at them)
